Mojo Workin' I

Last week i was invited to exhibit at the Perth Blues Club Mardi Gras in January.

I only had two small "Blues" related paintings left, both Billie Holiday ones I did a couple of years ago.

I thought it's worth having a crack at getting a few paintings together for this show which will be held in a well known Blues venue here in Perth.

Finding reference photos of the Blues legends is not as easy as it may sound without using over published ones or risking copyright infringement so I've tried grabbing frames off youtube video clips.

This is the first successful conversion, a couple of others have nosedived.

The blues in greens and mauves...from this angle he almost looks like Trane, and the mic a mouthpiece. The purple at top is killer, and the bluer accents clear the Waters so Muddy can shine.

Cheers Nick, I'm not sure ol'e Muddy would've minded being confused with the great JC.
I'm working with a pretty muddy looking palette at the moment. Trying to squeeze as much out of the grays as I can. Makes the more saturated hues really sing when used in small areas.

Excellent idea for a series David and the approach to the subject is pretty damn exciting. The color arrangements are music unto themselves. The edges on your forms look fresh and spontaneous but I imagine it took some hard thought and dexterity to pull it off - like this.

Thanks William, You're of course in the city where Blues got big. I'd imagine ther'd be one or two of the original old Blues clubs still running there.

One of these days!
