Map to Alice
Well it's the map I have in my head. I'm sure those that know the area will recognize it immediately;)
I'm enjoying getting these out of my system, tomorrow Kings Canyon gets the treatment.

We didn't get out to this area ...only had time for one excursion while in Alice Springs... went to the MacDonnell Ranges.
G'day Sandy, I've come to realise that a departure from the traditional european landscape structure is the only way to portray the expansiveness and feel of the place. You need to project the eye from a much wider viewpoint physically and philosophically to come close to a truth.

just excellent. i hope one day i can get "beyond" the visual like this. it just makes me "feel" the australian desert and that is not just a "throwaway" comment...

Thank you for your comment. I feel I'm taking a risk by doing stuff like this but there come a time(sorry Neil) when a bloke has to do what a bloke has to do regardless of risk. Your "cuteness" comment had me thinking. Maybe sometimes it's right to be wrong.
Digg'n the color(s) on this subtle work. The wash is clean and forms a world most comfortable to wander in and through. The new series reads with intensity and excellence - and is pretty damn good too! Getting pigment to settle on the paper just right is not easy - 3 mil camels? Now there's a story!
True Bill 3 mil. They're good eating and the best of their species in the world due to diverse breeding and tough conditions and isolation from disease. Could be a lucrative export business for a motivated and crazy person.

Great to be this expressive.. bring on Kings Canyon – sounds like you are enjoying finally this ‘release’.. all the visuals in your head from your experiences with being in the desert finally making it into art form.
I clicked on your Map to Alice.. is that writing i see which form lines on the left above the circle?
At first i thought it some abstract representation of a guitar?
Did you bring it along.. your guitar?
Perhaps they are lyrics?
May be writing to warn others who come after you.. “beyond here lay scorpions”?
Anyway i think it interesting, as i have never been to this place.

Hi PG, yes there are that many by conservative estimates. Kings Canyon didn't work.
The words are some thoughts I had at the time after the 1500k beautiful isolated dirt road drive and then suddenly arriving at Katatjuta and Uluru with the swarms of tourists and the signs of commercial interests. Something Australians are very good at. Ignoring some types of beauty and exploiting others. It's rarely in between.
Well, whatever you are exploiting and ignoring, it sure looks good to me!
That's hot! (not like Paris Hilton hot but like desert hot) LOL! I think you really captured the feel and atmosphere that you said your were going for. Nice abstraction. Looks like you enjoyed painting it.

I've looked at this fascinating painting of yours several times since you posted it and thought that i'd already commented(!) so am truly sorry that once again my absent-mindedness, or unintentionally delayed responses (or both) are a genuine oversight. Pls forgive.
..imho you have produced another masterwork here. Brilliant!...And more power to you!!
..Clearly acquainted with the 'Red Centre' (and although i've been there, i haven't spent near the time there that you have) >> i can certainly pick up a vibe with the sense of the 'covert' aliveness of the place and the *presence* of 'the apparently-long-gone', an aura, metaphysical yet incarnate in paint... a curious sign of signs.
.. the horizon ? the spine of ancient creature,, but that's perhaps too literal an interpretation
Multilayered, complex, warm, subtle and yet in other ways in stark contrast to how a painting can stand in emphatic contradistinction to a building, to hard city forms as seen through a window, or to an 'implement'.
It's refreshing to see your expressive freehand work here, so overarching and yet respectful of the Ancient Land and Dreamtime of Central Australia.
