Filles Érotiques, Dedicated to Alice
The Alice Springs theme continues from Namatjira to these two lovers.
As I've been on a retrospective curve this week I thought this one from late last year is an example of a more recent figurative watercolour.
I've adjusted the saturation a little from what I'd uploaded onto my website previously(for those who have seen it before). It was too pink looking. This is a more accurate jpeg.

I think it's one of your best, just gorgeous - the painting and the subjects. The limited palette of sepia tones gives it almost a Victorian look, or one that certainly has a timeless appeal. FAntastic Dake!
A big thanks NiX
Hope you're feeling better this week!
Pow! Right to the libido and down the spine. Sepia shmepia - the only fault in this painting is the fact that they are not sharing my current time and space. Goods delivered David and damn excellent brushwork to boot. Nudes are difficult to do especially if beauty is involved... I can fake heavy to obese models just fine.. but this is entirely something else.
Heheh Thanks Bill, yes you share my sentiments re time and space.
Picasso said something about art having to be sexy to be decent.Maybe that's not to be taken too literally, not sure.
There's more where this came from, and they probably deserve an airing here. I'd hate to see the roots of aestheticism which is basically sensuality die in a world of cynical, conceptual, pragmatic intellectualization.
I feel that sometimes beauty and sensuality should be painted despite the schools of the above ideas relegating such idealistic imagery to the kitsch bucket.
Personally I don't believe there are any rules to this game.
Very elegant and erotic Dake! They look beautiful in those smooth- as- silk sepia tones.
Love the French flavour, so i thought i'd add some Italian into the mix...
Che bello!
Una sensualita` erotica e delicata!
Bravo.
Hi David, thanks again.
I said I'd give the turban guy another go but I doubt I can bring myself to look into those eyes again.
He just doesn't ring my bell.
You and Milind can have him to yourselves heheh! Next time perhaps something like this one might get my factory humming.
Un grande grazie Patricia, your feminine response is welcomed. In Italian even more so! My wife said she'd be surprised if any women
commented on this one but something told me your aesthetically tuned soul would not mind it at all.
Well I am pleased that I have waited until now before commenting... the boys have had their say and very eloquently too! I can but echo their sentiments.
This is a challenging subject but a beautiful watercolour..one of your best.
I must say your wife was right...to a degree.
However, subject is not all that makes a painting. Although your subject commands attention it is your mastery of the medium that really makes it work.
Très très bon...desire...Première tresse de l'amour....
What else?
You're a Master...Kisses tite Isa
Merci Isa, I' ; m vous a satisfait apprécient celui-ci Votre approbation signifie beaucoup à moi parce que vous avez un foyer fort sur figuratif l'art.
I really liked your nudes. i thought they were very well done. I have a hard time painting the form.
now THIS is a cool painting. so sensual and yet haughty. that is the word haughty. there is a restrained Victorian feel and i love the poses and the composition.
how could anyone NOT find this painting captivating!
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-- Joel.
Thanks for looking at my blog Linda. I had a look at some of your paintings. It would appear to me that you can paint just about anything.
I appreciate your comment, thanks
Hi Joel, hope things are cooling off down there in Vic.
Still around 35-38 up here every day for the past couple of weeks.
Thanks for your supportive words. I agree that this one does have several great features. I'm really pleased with the control vs fluidity in this painting.
I think it's strong tonally too.
I must have looked at 300 aboriginal paintings today and identified tonality as the most important element to me in those as well.
hi David! cool finding you!!
Love this watercolor, excelent skin renders, and a favourite theme
Alex
Beautifull work!!
